Silecroft to Langdale backpack.

This was intended to be a four day W-E Lake District crossing but instead ended up being a quick dash from Silecroft to Langdale.

I think I pushed too hard on the first day with a heavy (15.5kg) pack (26km with 1368m ascent) then ended up paying the price with blisters on the second.

The blisters led me to rethink and beat a hasty retreat to Langdale and the promise of a lift home!

I’m pretty much reconsidering the use of approach shoes (FiveTen CampFour) on heavy backpacking trips, as they’re pretty brutal over rocky terrain with extra weight. Not to mention the lack of any waterproof membrane. This left me with wet feet (even using sealskinz socks) by the end of the first day.

Lessons learned from this include using new footwear for heavy backpacking and not pushing it so hard on the first day! Also get a new pair of sealskinz socks.

Route – Total Distance 47km with approx. 2300m ascent in 2 days.
